Sydney Swans co-captain Josh Kennedy is confident his young side is ready for the contest against a Melbourne team looking to bounce back from a winless start to the season.

The Demons are travelling to the SCG for Thursday night football having not got a win under their belt this season.

Kennedy said his side was wary of the travelling side who are currently ranked number one in the competition for clearances after the first three rounds.

“You talk about the tactical stuff and how you want to pull them apart to inevitably get the win,” Kennedy told SEN radio.

“Certainly the psychological state of the game is something that we talk about, they will come out fierce.

“I read earlier in the week that they were talking a lot about their defensive pressure and accountability so that is going to be something that we are going to have to expect this week.”

Riding high off the first win of the season the Swans will be looking to make it two in a row with a win over Melbourne on Thursday night.

The move of Zak Jones into a more permanent midfield role and Tom McCartin into defence stood out in last week’s win over Carlton.

“It has been good to see a few different looks,” Kennedy said.

“It is exciting to see a lot of our young players are continually improving and showing that they can stand up.”

Superstar forward Lance Franklin has a strong record against Melbourne having not lost to them in any of his 15 matches against the Demons throughout his career.

Franklin has booted six goals from the opening three rounds of the season.

“At the moment he is able to do most (training) sessions,” Kennedy said.

“His pre-season was extremely limited so it will take a bit of time for him to build that match fitness.

“His body is in pretty good shape so he will continue to get better which is a real positive for us.”
