From inspirational individual performances to magnificent mullets, Sydney Swans defender Ted Richards has seen it all in his 12 seasons of AFL football.

Ahead of his 200-game milestone, which Richards will reach this Saturday night against Collingwood at ANZ Stadium, SwansTV sat down with Teddy to hear about some of the best and worst moments of his AFL career.

The All-Australian defender listed some of his best career moments as the 2012 Grand Final, playing alongside and against star player Adam Goodes, and lining up with younger brother Xavier against Carlton in round 14 this season.

“It’s probably a bit boring, but easily the Grand Final was the highlight,” he said.

“If not that, then the preliminary final last year or in 2006 when we beat Fremantle out at ANZ Stadium.

“Apart from that, playing alongside Xavier against Carlton this year was a massive thrill.

“Just to play a game with him is something I never thought would happen.”

The 30-year-old identified Goodes and former Essendon captain James Hird as the two best players he’s played with, adding that both Goodes and Hird had a game-changing ability.

“It’s a tie between James Hird and Adam Goodes,” Richards said.

“Both are Brownlow medallists and are incredible at what they do, and they both have this X-factor and they stand up and give big games when the teams need them to.”

Premierships aside, Richards said one of his other career highlights was defeating the West Coast Eagles on their home deck.

“Any win we’ve had over in Subiaco in Perth, especially with the Eagles and the Swans having such a big rivalry,” he said.

“We go over there, we head over quite early and it’s 22 Swans’ players pretty much against 40,000 Eagles fans.

“It’s just an incredible feeling when the siren goes at the end of the game when they are all quiet and it’s just us partying.”

Richards also mentioned some of his favourite off-season moments, including his love for dressing up on Mad Monday.

“I’m a big fan of dressing up for Mad Monday,” Richards told SwansTV.

“I dressed up as Gotye one year and in doing so I won Tool of the Week on Channel 10’s (Before the Game) show but I also got on the top of the ‘What’s Hot’ list in the local paper.

“It was possibly a career highlight.”
