We have selected 18-year-old ruckman Will Green with our first round selection, pick 16 of the 2023 AFL Draft.
Recruited from the Northern Knights, where he was co-captain, Green impressed in decorated top-age campaign this season. The 204cm ruckman previously juggled cricket commitments with football, but prioritised football this year and it has paid dividends.
Green played 14 Coates Talent League matches and played in the Under 17 Futures showcase on AFL Grand Final day. He was also selected in the National Academy and played twice in Australian colours against VFL opposition this year.
Alongside this, he was selected as the starting ruck in the 2023 Team of the Year having also been named in the All-Australian side. An exciting prospect he will develop his craft and learn from the best alongside fellow new Swan Brodie Grundy and Swans coach Dean Cox, one of the greatest ruckmen to play the game.
Green will be working hard to be in contention for selection when the Sydney Swans open the show for season 2024 on Opening Night against Melbourne at the SCG, in a match that will mark the club's 150th birthday celebrations.
