The QBE Foundation hosted its annual Goals for Good event at Sunday’s AFL clash between the Sydney Swans and GWS Giants, resulting in a donation of $125,000.
The initiative saw the QBE Foundation donate a base of $125,000 – the equivalent of 25 goals. Funds raised will be split between QBE Foundation’s community partners and the Sydney Swans Foundation.
Last year, the Foundation donated $3,000 for each of the 14 goals the Swans scored at the SCG, with the total contribution rounded up to $75,000 after the game.
Chris Esson, co-chair of the QBE Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting it as a fun and meaningful way for QBE to support its community partners.
“Our nearly 40-year partnership with the Sydney Swans has allowed us to make a real difference in the communities and causes that matter to both our organisations.
We’re proud to continue this important work with this year’s QBE Foundation Goals for Good initiative, contributing to the creation of stronger, more resilient, and inclusive communities.”
The funds donated through this year’s Goals for Good will go towards QBE’s community partners – Save the Children Australia, Stars Foundation, Australian Red Cross, R U OK?, and Foundation For Rural and Regional Renewal as well as the Sydney Swans Foundation.
Deputy CEO of the Australian Red Cross Penny Harrison also had the special honour of being part of the coin toss and forming the Guard of Honour along with other QBE guests and partners at the game.
Mr. Esson emphasised that this provided a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication of those who support our communities.
"QBE is proud to work alongside our community partners, whose commitment to driving positive change is truly inspiring. Together, we aim to strengthen and build more resilient, inclusive communities."
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the initiative is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together for a worthy cause.
“QBE Foundation’s Goals for Good is a wonderful initiative to give back to the community, including our Sydney Swans Foundation, which is providing pathways for local kids through the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to thank QBE for their support.”
