Isaac Heeney completed arguably the most complete 4000 possessions in club history as the Swans posted their first win over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in 10 years on Saturday.

Playing his 215th game, Heeney was the 20th Swans player to hit this mark since the introduction of possession counts in 1965, and the 12th-quickest. And he’s the 4000 Club member with most goals.

Two goals, 28 possessions (13 contested), four tackles, five clearances and six score involvements against Port gave him a career total of 278 goals – 14th on the all-time list.

Only two other Swans have had more than 200 goals at the time of reaching 4000 possessions – Stephen Wright had 231 goals when he got there in his 216th game, and Barry Mitchell, who was 158 games to 4000, had 208 goals.

Paul Kelly had 153 goals at 4000 possessions after 188 games, Luke Parker 143 goals at 177 games, Daryn Cresswell 140 goals at 171 games, Kieren Jack 134 goals at 195 games, Mark Browning 126 goals at 211 games and Dennis Carroll 113 goals at 209 games.

The Swans’ all-time possession leaderboard is:

  1. Josh Kennedy (7137)
  2. Luke Parker (6798)
  3. Adam Goodes (6390)
  4. Jarrad McVeigh (6264)
  5. Jake Lloyd (6247)
  6. Jude Bolton (5831)
  7. Daryn Cresswell (5601)
  8. Ryan O’Keefe (5154)
  9. Dan Hannebery (5069)
  10. Kieren Jack (5029)
  11. Paul Kelly (4777)
  12. Mark Browning (4667)
  13. Stevie Wright (4526)
  14. Brett Kirk (4462)
  15. Barry Mitchell (4361)
  16. Heath Grundy (4258)
  17. Michael O’Loughlin (4198)
  18. Dennis Carroll (4177)
  19. Dane Rampe (4217)
  20. Isaac Heeney (4024)

The Swans hadn’t beaten Port Adelaide in Adelaide since April 2015 in Heeney’s second game and Ted Richards’ 200th game in red and white, losing five in a row.

They’d endured a 1-9 run overall against the Power in that time, posting their only win in last year’s preliminary final by six goals at the SCG.

The Heeney milestone came after Harry Cunningham, returning to the side against Richmond in Round 13, topped 3000 career possessions.
