The Sydney Swans return to the SCG to take on the Fremantle Dockers in Round 17 this Sunday afternoon.

Fremantle, fresh off a narrow 12-point victory against St Kilda, will be chasing seven consecutive wins against the Swans. The Dockers leaders were strong against the Saints, with Jordan Clarke (1 goal, 31 disposals), Andrew Brayshaw (25 disposals), and forward Josh Treacy with 3 goals.

Fremantle’s Captain Alex Pearce is back in the side while midfielder Jaeger O’Meara also returns, having not played AFL since Round 6 due to injury.

The last time Fremantle were at the SCG, in Round 16 last season, they won in a last-minute one-point victory.

The Swans are coming off a 9-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at the SCG in Round 16. Joel Amartey, Tom McCartin, and Joel Hamling return, while Dane Rampe (injury), Aaron Francis (suspended), and Ollie Florent (omitted) are out of the side.

Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir spoke on Sydney’s recent form.

“It’s a big challenge. Sydney are in good form. They pushed the Bulldogs all the way; if they kicked a bit better, they may have gotten over the line there.

“Their contest work is strong, and they’ve got some personnel back. They seem to be hunting oppositions before the bounce and during the game, so they’ve got a bit of their mojo back,” Longmuir said.

Longmuir went on to praise Brodie Grundy’s performance against the Western Bulldogs.

“It’s a big battle; Grundy’s form has been phenomenal,” said Longmuir.

“Last week, I thought he was the best player on the ground. His influence on the game was huge, so it’s going to be a challenge for Luke and Sean, but it’s a good opportunity to throw two different guys at him.”

First bounce on Sunday afternoon is at 1.10 pm at the SCG.

The team will run out wearing our 2025 Marn Grook Guernsey in celebration of NAIDOC Week which begins on Sunday.
