Senior coach Dean Cox spoke to the media on Thursday, ahead of Sydney's Round 22 clash with Brisbane.

On new CEO Matthew Pavlich

"I was really, really impressed to see him be appointed, we'd known for a little period who they were chasing and to have some chats with him along the way about what he wants to do with the footy club, what he stands for as a person, he's really impressive, so yeah, as a footy club we're really excited about his appointment."

On going from rivals on the field to working together

"That's all, yeah, he's my boss, so I think that's the great thing about what he's done on the football field, certainly never understated, he's been one of the best players the comp's seen, certainly in my generation, and the impact he's had on football clubs, but also what he's done off the field to make him as prepared as possible for the role, and he'll do an unbelievable job."

On Pavlich's involvement in the upcoming trade period

"We're always looking at it at least, that doesn't change if it's three weeks or three months, one thing we always want to do is to get the best people in our football programme, and Tom played a huge role in that, Matt will do exactly the same, so I expect Pav to be a part of these conversations virtually from today, and that's the great thing, he knows so many people, he's got a great football brain, and also having Tom navigate through the early part of Pav's time here is going to be really beneficial as well."

On Jake Lloyd's future

"Throughout the process there's always those things that happen with players, the finer details are stuff that keep between the players and the footy club, so Jake's no different through that, he's just had his second little baby, so he's got some other things that he's worrying about, a little boy that's a week old as well, so yeah we're in constant dialogue with all our senior players and players that are out of contract about what the situation looks like, the ability to still be able to play footy and to a level that's required, he's doing that which is good."

On Jack Buller

"I think with Jack he's doing what a young key forward can do, and I think a lot of people sort of say with Jack is he missed last year with back complaints pretty much for the whole season, so he'd played half a year as a mid-season rookie before that, so he's certainly come on and shown that he's capable to play AFL football, so the finer details of what our list looks like, we've got three games to go which I'm pretty heavily involved in making sure we finish off as well as we can whilst also understanding we need to improve our list."

On the remaining three games in the season

"I think one thing the group need to do is to finish off, and certainly against some really good opposition who are striving to play deep into September. I think that's one thing that we want to try and challenge ourselves is against the best teams. Some changes we'll make, but also I think the back part of the year, other than a half against GWS, has been really pleasing for the playing group. We've made some inroads into what we want to do, but there's still a lot more and we get a chance to test ourselves against a couple of upcoming opponents that are really dangerous football teams."

On whether James Jordon will tag Hugh McCluggage

"Hugh's had an unbelievable season. I think one of the better ones individually that someone can have, and his importance through that middle of the ground certainly helped set him up. So, we'll get through today and then discuss what the match-ups look like."

On the Brisbane Lions

"We want to beat them. We've certainly always been in a position that no matter who you play, when you play them, practise games and certainly the challenge we have of going to the Gabba against one of the better teams is, I think they proved what they had. I think as Chris said, one of the games they haven't had for a while against Gold Coast, but every other one other than that has been first class. We expect nothing different."
