Ahead of her 50th AFLW game, midfielder Darcy Moloney addressed the media on Wednesday to discuss her time at the Swans so far, the team's 3-0 start and playing at Henson Park with a home crowd behind her.
On the start to the season
"Yeah, I mean, it's the ideal start. Any team that can go 3 from 3 at the start is really good. But we're not trying to look too far ahead at the moment, we're just sort of taking it one step at a time and preparing for free on the weekend."
On what's been working for the team so far
"I think our ball movement's been probably a stand-out for us at the moment. We've been moving the ball really well. I think we've been playing really well through all three lines and for the most part, pretty consistently through quarters. Which has been, I mean, I think that's the sort of recipe for success in the AFLW is that consistency piece."
On her 50th AFLW game
"I mean, it's pretty special, you know, once upon a time I probably thought I'd be a one-club player. But now at the Swans, I think it's even sweeter reaching the 50 with these guys, with this group. You know, it's nice for my family too. It's a reward for all our effort and all the sacrifices they've made throughout my career, which has been really good. So yeah, we're all really keen to celebrate."
On her goal celebration against the Cats on Saturday
"I'm a pretty passionate player and sometimes I just celebrate harder than others. And it was an important part of the game, we needed to wrestle back momentum. So I just tried to give some energy to the group and try and sway the momentum away from the cats. "
On her move to Sydney
"Yeah, really good, I live with my sister in Ash Van Loon. I think Ash being new and I had already known her previously as well, it made the move so much easier. I have a bit of family up here with my sister so I don't feel so alone and away from my whole support system, which has been really good. The group have been fantastic, I think all the new players would say they've taken us in and we felt part of the group from the start, it's been really good."
On the atmosphere at Henson Park
"It'll be my first time playing with the home crowd. From experience playing as the opposition, it's pretty hard when you've got all the support from the Sydney Swan fans, yelling and screaming. You sort of feel like you've got no support out there besides your team. So I'm really excited to be on the other side of that. I'm sure all the girls are really excited to hopefully get a huge crowd here and to cheer us along."
On the importance of the support from Sydney fans
"There's still a lot of footy to watch now, footy's not over for the Swans. I'd encourage all the members to try and watch and get behind us. We need all the support we can get, I feel like we've proven we're a solid team so far and the more support we get, the more we'll go through".
