Speaking to Sydney Swans Media, Gowans said Martin would provide a strong target up forward.
"Amelia is a developing player from the Academy, and her speed across the ground is really important for a player who plays a medium or even can play tall as well," Gowans said.
"She just has that ability to win the ground ball, dish it off, she's a great mark as well.
"But if we can get the ball in her hand, she's a very accurate kicker, and we haven't been kicking that accurately this year, so it's something we're trying to look to correct."
Sarah Grunden has retained her place in the Swans' forward line after she impressed in her first game for 2025, kicking two goals in Sydney's 25-point win over Fremantle.
"She kicked two goals and both by pressure, so pressure acts, which we love, and she is a very accurate kick as well," Gowans said.
"So it's just getting the mix right of what we want to do and have that versatility that if the game isn't going our way, we can make some changes, and both Amelia and Sarah offer that."
The Swans will travel to Melbourne for the first time this season, and Gowans encouraged Swans fans living in Melbourne to get along to support the team.
"It's our only one (game in Melbourne) other than Casey Fields (against Melbourne), so it's really exciting," Gowans said.
"Hopefully the fans can all come along, it's really important that we get feet on the ground and help to get to the 14 games that everyone wants in AFLW and let's do our part, and hopefully the other clubs roll along.
"But it'd be great to pack it out and have more Swans supporters than the Collingwood supporters at Vic Park."
Sydney takes on Collingwood at Victoria Park on Sunday.
