The Sydney Swans have suffered their first defeat of the 2025 NAB AFLW Season following their 26-point loss to Collingwood Magpies at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon

The Magpies controlled proceedings for long periods on their way to a 6.7 (43) to 2.5 (17) victory.

It was a disappointing first half performance that ultimately proved the difference, with the Magpies kicking five unanswered goals to record a dominant 28-point advantage at half-time.

The Swans, who didn't kick a goal until the final quarter through Montana Ham, were made to rue a hot of missed opportunities in the forward 50, while also were unable to withstand the Magpies relentless tackle pressure from start to finish.

Sydney restored some pride in the final stages with goals to Molloy and Ham, although their efforts to reduce the deficit any further were to no avail.

It will be a nervous wait for Julie O'Sullivan, after the Irish talent injured her knee in the fourth quarter and was unable to return.

Gardiner, who sits second in the competition for disposals, finished the match with 28 possessions and 10 tackles, while Ham finished with 15 disposals and one goal, which arguably will contend for NAB AFLW Goal of the YEAR following a blistering run from midfield, three handpasses, and an elite finish on her right.

Pies forward Kalinda Howarth starred, kicking three goals while gathering 15 disposals to go with three clearances.

Supporting Howarth, No.1 pick Ash Centra also impressed for the Pies with 18 touches and two majors.

The first half was dominated by the Magpies, who took control at the contest, thanks in large part to Brit Bonnici.

The midfielder had 20 of her 30 disposals in the first half, while finishing with three clearances and 469 metres gained.

The Swans will now set their sights on the GIANTS when they host the Sydney Derby on Sunday, September 21 at Henson Park.
