The ARA First Nations Academy combines high-performance football development with cultural connection and leadership growth. Registrations are now open for our next intake.
Since its inception in 2022, the Academy has created opportunities and a place for connection for First Nations boys and girls aged between 11 and 18 years old.
This year the program is expanding its reach with a new centre in Tamworth, in addition to the program hubs in Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Central Coast, Sydney, and Shellharbour.
Led by experienced coaches and mentors, the ARA First Nations Academy fosters football excellence, with participants taking part in weekly training sessions, cultural education sessions, and mental health workshops conducted by Black Dog Institute.
In July 2025, 44 participants from the Academy were selected for a tour of the Red Centre, which saw athletes take part in two games in Alice Springs and play Marn Grook with the Mutitjulu community.
“Our program is about building strong young First Nations people; strong in their culture and strong in their identity. Building positive social emotional well-being gives us the best chance to change some of the statistics around our youth,” said Jarred Hodges, Sydney Swans Manager – First Nations Strategy & Player Development.
“For me, (the Red Centre tour) was obviously about that deep cultural connection we've worked really hard to build through our ARA First Nations Academy program – connection to country, connection to culture, connection to ancestors, stories, and kin.”
