Sydney new recruit Taylor Smith says a fresh start in Sydney is exactly what she needs to grow as a person next season.
The Sydney Swans welcomed two-time Premiership forward Taylor Smith to the club on the final day of the AFLW Trade Period last week.
Smith, one of the most dominant forwards in the competition, booted 18 goals this season to help the Lions into another Grand Final.
“I’m always looking to grow and develop on-field and off-field and I think that's sort of what this new opportunity really brings for me is development in so many aspects of me as a person and as a player,” Smith said.
“I think a new chapter and a fresh start is really going to be what kick-starts that motivation to continually grow as a person on and off the field.
“I don't think I've stopped smiling since the moment I stood foot in here this morning, I think everyone is just so incredibly friendly and you can naturally tell that everyone is here for the same goal and I'm really excited by that.”
Smith is a proven performer at the top level, having won two Premierships with the Lions in 2021 and 2023.
She says the opportunity to play with the exciting young talent at the Swans, was a drawcard in making the move to the harbour city.
“The youth that they have here is so talented and you've obviously got Zippy Fish, who's just won the Rising Star, I'm really looking forward to getting to work with players of her calibre,” Smith said.
“Hopefully I can bring some experience and just some knowledge. I've obviously been playing now in the AFLW system for a really long time and particularly with the Lions it's such a high-quality program.
“I'm hoping I can bring some of that here and bring some forward craft and what I've been working on for the last few years and hopefully bring a few people along with me.”
With 77 games and two premierships under her belt, Smith is one of the more experienced heads in the Swans line up.
The 25-year-old said she hoped to make an impact in her first season.
“There's obviously a lot of opportunity here in Sydney and with the young group and coming in as an experienced player I hope that I can bring some knowledge,” Smith said.
“But most of all just, yeah, hopefully seamlessly fit into the group and build respect with all the players and really explore my off-field opportunities here in Sydney.
“There’s some incredible talent here and I really can't wait to work with them.”
