Sydney’s dominant performance over the Western Bulldogs was reflected in the Round 17 AFL Coaches votes, with two Swans sharing top honours after an impressive display at the SCG.
Charlie Curnow and Brodie Grundy couldn’t be split by the coaches, each earning nine votes for their influence across the match. Curnow’s presence in attack was undeniable, the key forward booting six goals, while Grundy’s work around the ground and in the contest (60 hitouts, 17 disposals) again underlined his standing as one of the competition’s premier rucks. Both were central to Sydney’s control of the game, earning unanimous recognition from the coaches.
Isaac Heeney added another strong performance to his season, collecting five votes for his impact forward of centre and his ability to break the game open when Sydney needed it. The Swans vice-captain recording 27 disposals and a goal, his consistency continues to be a defining feature of the Swans’ midfield‑forward connection.
Jordon’s reliability and two‑way running were rewarded with two votes, while young Swan Will Edwards rounded out the voting with one vote, a nod to his pressure, work rate and ability to stand up in big moments.
The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
