The Sydney Swans enter the Round 20 clash sitting in second place on the ladder with a 13-5 record this season. They will be looking to bounce back from a 16-point defeat to the Adelaide Crows, their first defeat at the SCG this season.

The GWS Giants currently sit in 11th, with an 8-10 record, coming off a three-point defeat to Essendon last week.

Earlier in the year, the red and white had a 41-point victory in a lightning-affected Sydney Derby at the SCG. The victory was the Swans’ sixth win from the past seven derbies.

The Swans, who had a five-derby winning streak from Round 20 2023, will take a 21-11 head-to-head record against the Giants into this week’s game. The Giants hold a 3-1 record over the Swans for finals matches.

Interestingly, six venues across four states have hosted the Sydney Derby. The Swans lead the ledger 10-5 at the SCG, 5-4 at Sydney Showground Stadium and 4-1 at Stadium Australia. The three interstate derbies, all played during the COVID period, produced wins for the Swans in Perth and Carrara, while the Giants prevailed in a 2021 finals clash in Launceston.

The best player on the ground will be awarded the Kirk-Ward Medal, named in honour of Sydney Swans legend Brett Kirk and GWS Giants great Callan Ward. Nick Blakey claimed this medal earlier in the year.
