It was a Sydney Derby demolition job at Engie Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the slick Swans dismantled their cross-town rivals GWS by 78 points.
The Swans flexed their muscle for their tenth victory of the year, which has pushed them to third place on the VFL ladder with three rounds remaining in the regular season.
It was a comprehensive team performance with the goals spread across the side. Joel Hamling led the way booting six goals while Jedd Longmire kicked four and Tom Hanily, Tom Ryan, Jesse Dattoli and Jevan Phillipou all kicked three each.
Corey Warner (26 disposals), Angus Sheldrick and Mitch Mellis (25 disposals) were the major ball winners for the Swans, consistent across the park all day.
The Swans exploded out of the blocks with intensity from ball up with goals to Joel Hamling, Jesse Dattolli and Corey Warner in the first 10 minutes, setting the platform for a rampant seven goals in opening term.
Another highlight from the opening term was a 55m goal from debutant and QBE Sydney Swans Academy player Jake Medved who ensured the perfect ending to the first quarter.
The scoreboard pressure continued in a relentless second quarter that was spearheaded by Hamling.
The 33-year old was a strong presence in the forward line and the recipient of some elite delivery with the scoring opportunities coming from some great run and drive from half back.
The Swans added another eight goals before half time, taking a ten goal lead into the main break.
They didn’t take their foot off the accelerator in the third continuing to mount the scoreboard with a further eight goals, the Giants only managing two at their end and the Swans took at 101-point lead into the final change.
The Giants showed some fight in the final term, outscoring Sydney in the final term with Giants VFL coach and former Sydney Swans and St Kilda player Trent Dennis-Lane winding back the clock kicking four goals to trim the margin back.
But the damage had been done as the Swans claimed a huge 78-point victory.
The run home has the Swans up next against the Devils, facing Tasmania for the first time on Saturday August 1 at Tramway Oval at 11.05am followed by a bye the next week and then their final fixture is against Essendon (game details TBC).
