Emerging Sydney Swans defender Will Edwards has signed a three-year contract extension, securing his future in the Harbour City until at least the end of 2030.

The 23-year-old was already contracted until 2027, with the three-year extension reward for his outstanding season so far.

A product of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, Edwards joined the club as a Category B Rookie following the 2022 Rookie Draft.

Edwards made his long-awaited AFL debut in Round 7 this season and quickly established himself as a reliable contributor for the team, averaging seven spoils and 11 disposals.

Sydney Swans Executive General Manager AFL Football, Leon Cameron, said the contract extension is reward for Edwards’ hard work.

"Will had to bide his time for a chance at AFL level but once it presented itself, he grabbed it with both hands, so we're really pleased to have him extend his time with us," Cameron said.

"Will's journey is a credit to the work he's put in, he’s overcome challenges with injury and has consistently performed when given opportunities.

"We believe he has a bright future ahead of him and we're looking forward to seeing his continued development as he pushes to establish himself at AFL level."

Edwards says he’s grateful to the club for showing faith in him, as he continues to develop into a key defender.

“It’s pretty amazing to be in this situation and to stay in Sydney, I absolutely love it here. I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else,” Edwards said.

“Obviously being still quite young but obviously a big frame and a big body I just want to learn to use my size, strength and physicality but also learning those sorts of positions (in defence).

“It’s a pretty exciting group; you can see when we’re at our best the type of footy we play is special so I’m looking forward to spending more time with these boys and hopefully achieving something really special.”
