The Sydney Swans congratulate Mark McVeigh on his appointment as AFL Senior Coach at the Essendon Football Club.
McVeigh, who been a coach at Sydney since 2023, will commence his new role this week.
Following a 232-game playing career with Essendon, McVeigh worked with the GWS Giants Academy before becoming an assistant coach at GWS in 2015 and caretaker senior coach in 2022.
He joined the Sydney Swans in 2023 as Academy Head Coach of the U18 Male program and led the Allies to their first title at the National Championships. In 2024, he was appointed assistant coach, in charge of the Swans backline.
Sydney Swans General Manager AFL Football, Leon Cameron thanked McVeigh for his dedication and commitment.
"Mark has been an important part of our coaching group for many years, and his wealth of knowledge and experience has been immensely valuable to our playing group,” Cameron said.
“This is a significant opportunity for Mark to take on a role as a senior coach, so while he will be missed, we wish Mark and his family well as they embark on this next chapter.
“On behalf of everyone at the Sydney Swans, I thank Mark for his contribution to our club and wish him all the best at Essendon.”
