The Sydney Swans are thrilled to announce Jess Corones as the new Executive General Manager of AFLW Football.

A senior staff member of Swimming Australia for more than 14 years, Corones developed her skills from the grass roots of Australian sport through to the elite level.

Most recently, Corones was the General Manager, Performance Support and Olympic Campaign at Swimming Australia, providing technical, systems and people leadership across the high-performance unit and wider organisation.

Having grown up in Sydney, Corones has spent 23 years working with coaches, athletes and expert staff across Olympic sports, leading high-performance programs and building and aligning team culture.

Beginning her career as a sports scientist, Corones played a key leadership role in the Swimming Team for Olympic campaigns in Rio 2016, Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024, helping collect a swathe of medals for Australia along the way.

Corones says she is thrilled to take up the challenge of a new role at the Sydney Swans.

“I’m honoured to be joining the Sydney Swans, a Club with such a rich history,” Corones said.

“Kate Mahony and the team have done an outstanding job establishing the program and building it into a true high-performance environment, and I’m looking forward to continuing that work. I can’t wait to get started with Colin and the team and build something special together.

“I’m excited to get to know the players, coaches and staff. The AFLW is one of the most exciting competitions in Australian sport, and the opportunity to help shape its next chapter at a Club like the Swans is a real privilege.”

“My focus will be on creating an environment where every player and staff member feels supported and empowered to perform at their best.”

“I’m incredibly grateful to Swimming Australia and the Dolphins for an amazing journey, and I’m excited to bring that experience to the club”

Sydney Swans CEO Matthew Pavlich welcomed Corones to the Club and said she was the standout candidate for the role.

“In the search for an Executive General Manager of our AFLW program, Jess’ professionalism, longevity at the highest level and passion for sport made her an outstanding choice.” Pavlich said.

“In more than a decade with Swimming Australia, Jess demonstrated the ability to build strong relationships, execute high-performance campaigns, fostered team culture, and successfully managed commercial partnerships with key stakeholders.

“We believe Jess will be a fantastic addition to our AFLW program, and we can’t wait for her to start.

Corones will officially being in her new role as the Executive General Manager, AFLW Football on November 23.
