Sydney have been defeated by Essendon by 10 points at the MCG on Saturday.

In a tight contest in sunny conditions, it took until midway through the last quarter before the Bombers ended the Swans challenge to prevail 11.10 (76) to 9.12 (66).

Neither team could gain an edge in a scrappy first half, with the Swans grabbing a three-point lead at the last change.

The intensity picked up in the final term however but it was the Bombers who took the advantage, the Swans unable to capitalise on chances going forward and the Bombers overunning the visitors to take the points.
