Sydney Swans co-captain Josh Kennedy addressed the media ahead of training at the SCG on Thursday morning.

Sydney is set to face the Geelong Cats at the SCG on Sunday afternoon.

Here are some key quotes from the press conference.

A mighty Cats challenge

“They’ve got class all over the park, and in the midfield as well, so it’s going to be a big task. They’re a classy team, they’re on top of the ladder for a reason and it’s going to be a big challenge for us. For us as a team it’s about trying to get better every week and wanting to be the best in the competition. They are the best in the competition at the moment so it’s a great challenge for us to go head to head with them.”

Ruck situation

“It’s something we’ve had to deal with in recent weeks and it’s certainly made things a little bit more difficult. But I think the way Hayden McLean competed last week was really impressive. He certainly gave us a lift around the ground, he was a real shining light last week and I look forward to seeing him continue to build on that.”

Sam Naismith’s return

“He’s playing this week in the twos, which is really exciting. Unfortunately we won’t be able to get out there to watch him but we’ll be getting the updates when we’re warming up at the SCG.”

Oliver Florent’s 50th AFL game

“He’s been a great character ever since he arrived at the footy club. He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm, he loves his footy and he’s really diligent with how he approaches his training. Hopefully he’s going to be a really good player for us for a long, long time. I look forward to seeing him continue to develop. The 50 games have come around pretty quickly, hopefully there are many more to come and I look forward to seeing him develop into a really quality player.”

Kennedy’s young teammates

“There have certainly been games this year where you sit back and say, ‘Wow, this is pretty exciting’. The young boys were really good against North Melbourne down in Hobart, and when we played Geelong last the young boys were really good again. We’ll keep trying to fast-track their development over the off-season.”
