A host of Sydney Swans footballers last week got a glimpse of the competition that helped foster the likes of Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh and Isaac Heeney into stars of the AFL.

Sydney’s Sam Naismith, Jack Maibaum, Hayden McLean and Durak Tucker paid a visit to last Wednesday’s PSSA Australian Football Championship, which saw 13 schools from across NSW square off for the Bob Bevan Cup at Peakhurst’s Olds Park.

The day culminated in 23 players being selected for a state team set to compete at the School Sport Australia National Championship in Western Australia in August.

Naismith was highly impressed with the efforts of the boys.

“Everyone’s buzzing around the joint,” Naismith told SwansTV.

“There are some hard tackles being made and there are some big scorelines. There are plenty of players having a crack and digging in.”
