Sydney Swans small forward Tom Papley will race the clock to be fit to take on St Kilda on Saturday night.

Papley missed Friday night’s win over Carlton at the SCG as his training loads were managed.

Head of Football Tom Harley said the livewire would be given until later in the week to prove his fitness.

“Tom missed the match over Carlton as we managed because he hadn’t done a lot of training so we took the opportunity to get some training into him,”

“He trained today, he will train again later in the week with a view of preparing him to play but we will make that decision later in the week.”

Youngster Matt Ling has suffered an unfortunate blow to his first season on the Swans list being ruled out for the remainder of the season with a toe injury.

Ling underwent surgery to fix a turf toe issue that has plagued the first round draft pick since he joined the Swans in November.

“He has surgery into the big toe joint and the recovery will mean that he won’t play for the remainder of the season,” Harley said.

“It is disappointing in the short term for him but we are still very confident he is a long term prospect for the Club.”

Jordan Dawson will make his return from injury this weekend against Redland after being sidelined for the majority of the season.

Dawson is set to play limited minutes in the match as he returns from injury.
