Lance Franklin has spoken of the pride in being named captain of the 2018 All-Australian side.

Franklin has also become just the seventh player in history to collect eight All-Australian honours, after being named at centre half forward in the side.

The superstar forward was delighted to be handed the honour of the captaincy of the side.

“It is unexpected that is for sure but I am obviously very proud,” Franklin said.

“To be captain of this amazing team with such great players in this team, I am stoked.”

“I am really proud, it has been a lot of hard work not only for myself but my teammates to get to the player I am today so I am rapt.”

Franklin has become just the third player in history to earn four All-Australian honours in red and white joining Adam Goodes and Greg Williams.

The 31-year-old said he was pleased with the progress he had made throughout his career upon accepting his eighth honour.

“I have come a long way not only with my football but the person I am today and I couldn’t be more proud,” he said.

“I just love getting out there and playing the best football I possibly can and if that excites people then that is great.”

The passion remains as strong as ever for the Swans key forward who has booted 57 goals from 18 matches this season.

“It is my number one passion,” Franklin said of his love of football.

“I love getting out there every weekend, running out with your best mates, the guys you train with every day.”

“I couldn’t ask for a better job it is amazing.”

Asked what he would say to his All Australian teammates before a game, Franklin joked: "Just kick it to me."
