Development coach Rhyce Shaw has confirmed Gary Rohan will lace up for the NEAFL Swans' cross-town derby against the Giants after his late withdrawal from Thursday night's AFL fixture.

Rohan was pulled from the final side at the last minute due to illness, replaced by emergency Harry Marsh only a couple of hours before the first bounce.

The 26-year-old developed symptoms of a cold during the week before copping the full force of the ailment by morning of game day.

With a couple of days rest he's been able to overcome the illness and get back to a suitable level of health to play, the medicos giving him the tick of approval on Friday to don the jumper this weekend after all.

How much game time he'll play at Blacktown International Sportspark will be monitored throughout the match but Shaw is backing his star inclusion to play a majority of the game without any ill-effects.

"We'll just see how he's tracking and go from there," Shaw said.

"Obviously, we were keen for him to play some sort of footy and he was too having missing out at AFL level.

"If he's right to play, he'll play and with that he's got to perform which I'm confident he will and push his name back up for senior selection next week."

Rohan bolsters a squad already boasting 20 AFL-listed players including senior omissions for this week, Kurt Tippett and Ollie Florent.

It will be Tippett's second game at the lower level. The last time the 202cm, 105kg key collected 22 disposals and kicked four goals in a dominant display against Canberra Demons.

He'll look to replicate those sort of figures on Saturday to put his hand up for a senior recall and to give his on-ballers first use against the league's leading ruckman in Dawson Simpson (averaging 46 hit-outs per game).

"I'm expecting Tippo to produce the same footy he produced last last time," Shaw added.

"He knows he's got some work to do to get his spot back in the seniors but I'm sure he'll come out firing on Saturday.

"He was fantastic with our group last time, he's obviously disappointed, but he hasn't put a foot wrong in his preparation and it's going to be a great battle against a good ruck duo in Simpson and Matthew Flynn."

The NEAFL Giants have been the victim of the Club's long injury list. While it hasn't seemed to faze the AFL side, it has had an impact at the lower level with the Giants sitting 10th on the ladder after dropping their last eight games.

Shaw is paying no attention, however, being particularly wary of what the Giants can produce on their day.

"Make no mistake we're out to claim a big scalp in the Giants this weekend," he added.

"They've played some great football in recent weeks, I think they had only six AFL-listed players against Brisbane's 18 a few weeks ago and only lost by a point.

"They're a quality outfit and a great club but we're looking to match that and go ahead with what we've been doing and take that next step.

"We got that wake up call against Brisbane back in Round 1, since then our standards have grown and we expect more of each other. We're playing the right way at the moment, our challenge is to keep playing that way and keep building."

Meanwhile, rookie small forward Ben Ronke will play his first game in red and white colours following his long stint in rehab recovering from injury.

Originally scheduled for Henson Park, this weekend's game was moved to BISP earlier in the week.
