The Sydney Swans and North Melbourne will play for the HeartKids Cup in Sunday’s match at the SCG to raise awareness of childhood heart disease.

This is the third time the two clubs have played for the HeartKids Cup with the Swans claiming victory on the last two occasions.

The HeartKids Cup was launched in 2012 by Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh and North Melbourne great Glenn Archer as both have been personally affected by childhood heart disease.

McVeigh sadly lost his daughter Luella in 2011 to a heart condition and Archer’s daughter Madison has been in and out of hospital throughout her youth as she overcomes a life threating heart condition.

HeartKids NSW CEO David Rose said it’s great to have the support of the Swans and North Melbourne to help raise awareness for childhood heart disease.

“There is no known cure or prevention for childhood heart disease and because of this the HeartKids Cup is essential to raise awareness and funds for childhood heart disease and HeartKids,” Rose said.

One in every 100 children born in Australia has a childhood heart condition, making it the most common birth defect.
