Sydney Swans Premiership coach John Longmire has been named to coach the All Stars in the AFL State of Origin match announced to raise money to support the bushfire Community Relief Fund.

Longmire grew up playing his junior football for Corowa-Rutherglen in the late 1980's, where he won the Ovens and Murray Football League's leading goal kicker at the age of 17.

He went on to play 200 matches for North Melbourne booting 511 goals from 1988 to 1999 including a Coleman Medal and winning the 1999 premiership.

Longmire amazingly played for both Victoria and New South Wales in State of Origin football in the same year.

In 1990 he played a match for Victoria against Tasmania, and for his home state of New South Wales against Victoria only a few weeks later.

In the game for New South Wales he booted eight of New South Wales' 13 goals and was judged by most as the best player on ground, with New South Wales winning that match.

Longmire took over as Senior Coach of the Sydney Swans in 2010 and in 2019 he went on to become the Club's longest serving coach.

Under Longmire’s leadership Sydney has reached the AFL finals eight times, played in three grand finals and achieved the ultimate success by winning the 2012 AFL Premiership.

In 2019 he was named in a forward pocket in the NSW Greatest Team of All Time.

Longmire will lead the All Stars side in the match announced by the league on Thursday afternoon with all proceeds from the contest going to the Community Relief Fund.
