Last time they met

The Swans came into the match with a strong winning record against the Lions dating back to 2004. It was a rainy night at the Gabba, making it a tough for the tall forwards from both clubs, it was the Lions that shot out to an early lead.

With a 20-point deficit to make up in the second term, the Swans were dealt a blow when Jared Crouch injured his hamstring. This enabled Lion Travis Johnstone to run freely and set up a quick Jonathan Brown goal for the home side. With Jude Bolton (29 touches) working tirelessly, the Swans went into the main break looking to pin back the 37-point margin.

With Kieren Jack running with Luke Power and Darren Jolly dominating the ruck (46 hit-outs) the Swans made a late comeback, bringing the deficit to 29 points going into the last quarter.

The Swans’ late surge was halted when Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw goaled early in the term to finish with four goals apiece as the Lions finished the match 33-point winners.
