With just two games remaining, midfielder Dylan McNeil says the Sydney Swans reserves are primed for a tilt at the finals.
Following three consecutive wins including an impressive 62-point win over the UWS Giants last weekend, McNeil said the reserves are hitting their best form at just the right time.
“We’re in really good form at the moment,” McNeil told sydneyswans.com.au.
“We’ve beaten Brisbane, UWS and the Gold Coast recently so we’re in good form and we have to keep it going for the games we’ve got left.
“At the moment we’re second on the ladder to Queanbeyan but we’ve beaten them quite comfortably.
“We’ve got two games to go, with the Hills Eagles this week and then Brisbane up there, and then after that we can give it a good shot at the finals.”
McNeil said across the board the reserves team are showing signs of improvement, with a number of players pushing for senior selection.
“I think our midfield group is in really good form,” he said.
“There are quite a few guys pressing for senior selection, and with the injury to Jude (Bolton) this week I think there are guys who are ready, and I’m sure they will play well.
“Whether it’s in the middle, up forward or defence, I think we’ve got a number of players ready.”
McNeil, who is a Swans rookie-listed player, also feels positive about his own development this season.
The 21-year-old midfielder said he benefitted from an uninterrupted pre-season with the club and believes he has made plenty of improvement this year.
“I had a good pre-season and didn’t miss a minute of any session and it was pretty long and tough, but it set me up well for the year,” he said.
“Just having that consistency of training and running gave me a really good base for the season and I think it’s progressed well into the season.”
The Albury-born player said he had focused on improving his input in both the midfield and forward line this season.
“My strengths would be in the inside contests, and being clean with my hands,” he said.
“This year, particularly in the last few months I’ve also been working on my forward game and I think that’s really improved and is starting to become a strength as well.”
“I’m focused on doing what I can within the team and help them go as far as we can this year.”
The Sydney Swans reserves will be in action prior to the seniors’ blockbuster match against Collingwood at ANZ Stadium this Saturday. The reserves face Sydney Hills Eagles from 4pm.
