2014 in review: Round 21
Lance Franklin capped his 200th game in style with nine goals in a spectacular display against St Kilda
In his 200th AFL match, Franklin was head and shoulders above the rest, finishing his milestone match with 19 disposals, 13 marks and nine goals and four behinds for the match.
The Swans controlled the games from the very beginning, outscoring the Saints eight goals to two in the opening term, before piling on 11 goals to six in the second half.
Midfielders Luke Parker, Jarrad McVeigh and Jake Lloyd were all instrumental in the victory, while Kurt Tippett added a further three goals to the Swans’ tally.
While the win helped the Swans secure their place in the competition top-two, the victory was soured by a hamstring injury to star midfielder Josh Kennedy, who was subbed out of the game at quarter time.
With just two games remaining before the finals series, Swans coach John Longmire told media after the match that the club took a precautionary approach with Kennedy.
"He didn't feel it go, but it felt tight at the back end of the first quarter,” Longmire said.
"He went out at the start of the second and tried to get it going and was still a bit tight in his hamstring, so we subbed him off.
"If Josh Kennedy has a tight hamstring, he's coming off."
Dual premiership player Lewis Roberts-Thomson was also officially farewelled at the match, with the 179-gamer completing a lap of honour at half time.
