The Sydney Swans reserves have moved into the NEAFL top four following a commanding 137-point win over Queanbeyan in Blacktown on Sunday.

The match, which was scheduled to be played as a curtain raiser to the Swans’ round four clash at the SCG, was moved to Blacktown as result of Sydney’s wet weather, but the change of venue didn’t slow the Swans who were dominant from the opening bounce.

The hosts took out the match 26.11 (137) to 3.12 (30) and finished with 12 goal scorers, including seven multiple goal kickers for the match.

Kicking with the wind in the first quarter, the Swans made the most of their opportunities booting six goals, while also applying relentless defensive pressure to keep the Tigers scoreless through the opening term.

Second-year Swan Tim Membrey stamped his authority on the match early, making strong leads in the forward line and clunking a number of strong marks in the wet and windy conditions.

Despite missing his first set-shot of the match, Membrey quickly adjusted to the conditions and went on to boot eight goals for the game as the dominant forward on the field.

Top-ups Daniel Preen and Matt Vicic also provided targets up forward throughout the match, while Jack Hiscox, who finished the match with three goals, was again impressive on the wing.

Rookie ruckman Sam Naismith produced another strong performance in the middle for the Swans, teaming well with international rookie Patrick Mitchell to give the midfielders first use of the ball.

Jake Lloyd and Craig Bird were the stand-out midfielders on the day, while Harry Marsh and Daniel Robinson also worked hard throughout the middle of the ground.

At the other end, the Swans defenders were lively all afternoon and managed to repel most of Queanbeyan’s scoring attempts.

The spoiling ability of last year’s draftees Zak Jones and Aliir Aliir caused problems for the visitors, while the run of Shane Biggs set up a number of attacking plays going the other way.

The Swans reserves now turn their focus to the Gold Coast Suns reserves, who they will host as a curtain raiser to the Sydney Swans v Fremantle match at the SCG on Easter Saturday.
