Bio
Without question the most revered player ever to don the red and white guernsey, Bob Skilton made his debut for the Swans in 1956. Over the following sixteen seasons, he would play 237 games and kick 412 goals for the Club. Captain of the Club in 165 matches from 1961 to 1971, and captain-coach in 1965 and 1966, he was Club Champion an unparalleled nine times – in 1958, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1967 and 1968. Remarkably, he came second in the club champion voting on a further four occasions. He represented Victoria in State of Origin football 25 times, and captained Victoria in 1965. A three-time Brownlow Medalist (in 1959, 1963 and 1968), in 2003 Bob was named Captain of the Swans Team of the Century, and was made a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame and immediately elevated to Legend status in 1996. The Sydney Swans’ Club Champion award, bestowed upon the Club’s best and fairest player each season, is known as the Bob Skilton Medal.
