Club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said the Sydney Swans were hopeful that Adam Goodes will miss just one week after he injured his right knee in last weekend’s clash with Port Adelaide.

Goodes suffered the injury in the third quarter of last Saturday’s match, with Cameron saying scans on Monday revealed the damage was not serious.

“He jarred his knee chasing the ball towards the boundary line in the Port game,” Cameron told SwansTV.

“He’s pulled up a little bit sore but it won’t take very long to settle down because there is not any new damage in there.

“We’re hopeful that he’ll be back running by next week.”

The Swans will again be without Sam Reid and Lewis Jetta against the Blues with Cameron saying both were edging closer to full fitness, but required another week on the sidelines to fully recover.

“Lewis has the inflammation of the bone in his shin and he has started running, but we just feel that with the Friday night game we’re at a bit of a risk of aggravating the injury, so we’ll have to hold him back until next week,” he said.

“Sam is on track with his rehab program and things are going well.

“He’s just taken another day or two to progress to where he needs to be, so he’s just not quite ready to train in preparation for this Friday.”

Andrejs Everitt is likely to return after an Achilles injury ruled him out of last round’s clash with Port Adelaide.

The versatile player injured his Achilles in the final training session of the week, but Cameron said he was confident the 24-year-old would train this week.

“Unfortunately his Achilles pulled up sore even though we’d had the bye week, so we had to pull him out before the game,” Cameron said.

“He is back running and it only took a few days to settle down, and he’s due to train tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Rhyce Shaw has taken another step towards his long-awaited return from an abdominal injury that has sidelined the defender for 10 weeks.

Cameron said he expected Shaw to begin team training over the next fortnight.

“He’s up and running as we mentioned last week and he’s running faster and faster,” he said.

“He’s starting some skill work next week and we’ll give him a week or so of training and get a bit of conditioning into him and then he’ll be ready to go.”

In other injury news, ruckman Shane Mumford has also returned to the track and will begin skill work this week followed by non-contact team training next week after fracturing his cheekbone a fortnight ago.
