Sydney Swans ruckman Mike Pyke is likely to recover from an ankle injury in time for this weekend’s clash with Hawthorn at the SCG.
Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said Pyke will face a fitness test at training this week, but remained positive the big man would recover ahead of Saturday afternoon’s match.
“He suffered a re-injury to the ankle that he’d done a couple of weeks ago, but it’s not as bad as the first time,” Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au
“We expect him, like last time, to be able to get up and play this weekend.”
Swans midfielder Jude Bolton is expected to return to the training track this week after hyper-extending his knee two weeks ago against Carlton.
Cameron said Bolton has made excellent progress in his recovery and will be aiming to be fit for selection ahead of the Swans’ final round match against Geelong.
“As everyone knows, Jude’s been running and he did some speed work on the weekend and did some agility today,” he said.
“We are hoping to finish off his speed and agility on Thursday and start some training but we just thought it was just not quite enough training to be declared fit enough to play this weekend.
“We really wanted to give him a full week of training, which we will aim for next week.”
In other injury news, Cameron said Swans forward Gary Rohan is on track in his recovery from a fractured tibia.
He said Rohan should meet his aim to begin running in October.
“At the moment Gary is just doing increased amounts of walking for fitness and walking on different terrains, and walking longer distances, and that is enough of a challenge at the moment for his leg and his ankle,” he said.
“We’re really happy with the way he’s progressing.
“We’re aiming to have him running in October.”
Meanwhile, Swans first year player Jordan Lockyer has recovered from his hamstring concerns and has returned to full training.
