THE SYDNEY Swans believe Jude Bolton will play on in 2013 but the club is still waiting for an official decision from the dual premiership player.

Bolton, 32, has been offered a spot on the list "if he wants it", and has been given time to think about whether he wants to play into a 15th season.

Sydney CEO Andrew Ireland said on Monday morning the club, without yet hearing from Bolton, was confident none of their more experienced players would hang up their boots just yet.

"We've got a number of players who are over 30, none of them who we think will retire next year, but we are going to be a position in the next few years to have some more space in our cap as older players retire," Ireland said, on day one of the Gillette AFL Trade Period at Etihad Stadium.

Swans who fit into that category include Bolton, Adam Goodes, Martin Mattner, Ryan O'Keefe and Rhyce Shaw, while Ted Richards and Lewis Roberts-Thomson turn 30 next year.

Ireland and coach John Longmire sat down with Bolton last week and gave him the time to consider his immediate future.

"He hasn't agreed to go on. There is a position on our list if he wants to," Ireland said.

"I think Jude has got some other opportunities. He's just played in a premiership and he's a 300-game player.

"Sometimes it's a bit about, is this the right time to retire?

"We've said to him, 'You go and have a think about it, there's a spot there if that's what you want to do, but you shouldn't rush into something where you might have other opportunities'.

"If he says yes, that's fine. We'll have a spot there for him."
