While Brett Kirk played his 150th game for the Sydney Swans, his two-and-a-half-year-old son Indhi made his MCG debut when he ran through the banner with his proud dad, who is now a life member of the club.

“You want to share those types of things with your family because being a dad is going to be the most important thing I ever do,” Kirk told sydneyswans.com.au.

“Being able to take my son out in front of the MCG crowd is something I’ll really cherish.”

Kirk said Indhi was more excited about his 150th game than he was.

“He was really pumped. He was bouncing off the walls. We got him a little pair of boots and his guernsey. He was talking about it all week but then when it came to the crunch he got a bit nervous.”

Before the match South Melbourne legend Bobby Skilton spoke to the team about Brett’s achievement. He also presented Kirk with his guernsey.

“I was really proud to have Bobby speak about me in such nice terms. It really blew me away some of the things he said. I’ve got so much respect for that man so it was great,” Kirk said.

The centreman was delighted to celebrate his milestone with the Swans’ first victory of the year.

“Whenever anyone plays a milestone you want to be able to remember the game by having a good win, so it was great.

“Last week’s loss was disappointing. We did a lot of analysing through the week so it’s just good to get a first win on the board.”

Kirk said even when his team went behind in the final quarter he believed they would win.

“I always knew we were going to persevere and really push the last quarter out. To Richmond’s credit they got themselves back into the game. We did have a few turnovers, which is disappointing, so we’ve a lot to improve on. But we’ve a long year ahead.”
