Senior coach John Longmire explained his side's 31 point loss to Fremantle as "the opposite of what we hoped", as the Swans were beaten in the contest across the ground.

After scoring the first goal of the game, the Swans were unable to hit the front for the duration of the game, remaining a step behind the Dockers intensity.

“Their midfield got well on top, not just in the midfield but in the clearances," Longmire said.

“Our connection forward of centre in the 2nd half, we had 26 inside 50s and only 4 scoring shots, and that’s not normally the case…that’s something that hasn’t been the normal."

It's fair to say the performance came as a contrast to the Swans' 41 point win over the Giants in Round 12, a view supported by Longmire.

“We didn’t have the same run and energy as last week...our skills dropped off," Longmire said.

“We couldn’t bring the ball to ground and missed targets going forward...some of the young fellas didn’t contribute as much tonight as they were able to last week”.

Longmire also commended his opposition's strong performance, noting their pressure was superior all night.

"They put us under pressure up the ground," Longmire said.

“Our inability to win 50-50’s, especially in the air, was disappointing.”

The performance of Nick Blakey was a silver lining in the defeat, as he backed up his 18-disposal, two-goal outing against the Giants last week with another 15 disposals, seven contested possessions, seven inside 50s and four clearances against the Dockers.
