The Sydney Swans have turned to a mix of youth and experience to replace injured duo Jarrad McVeigh and Will Hayward for Thursday night’s match against Melbourne.

Veteran midfielder Kieren Jack has been named for his first match of the season while Justin McInerney has been named as the second debutant for the Club in 2019.

McInerney has made an impact throughout his first pre-season on Sydney’s list and a standout performance in last weekend’s NEAFL win over Greater Western Sydney has earned the 18-year-old the call up.

“He is a young boy we picked up in last year’s draft and is a terrific outside runner who runs hard and is a beautiful kick,” Coach John Longmire told QBE Team Selection.

“He has some great attributes and has played a bit inside for us over the last few weeks as well and done a good job there.

“He has showed some really good versatility and has been really strong since he arrived at the club.”

Jack battled a knee concern during the pre-season but has strung several performances together for the NEAFL team in recent weeks.

“It is good to get Kieren back in, he has played the last three games in our Reserves and has got better every week.”

“We know he is experienced and can play a number of different roles for us as well across different areas of the ground which is terrific.”

McVeigh (quad) and Hayward (jaw) are expected to miss at least the next month of football with injuries suffered against Carlton.
