Just one point separated the sides late in the second quarter, but the Magpies broke open the contest in the third term to set up their 13.19 (97) to 8.8 (56) win.
Adam Goodes again caught the eye with a classy 24-possession, three-goal performance for the Swans and didn't stop running until the final siren.
Darren Jolly was the leading ruckman on the day with 32 hitouts to go with his 13 disposals and seven tackles.
Coach Paul Roos received impressive defensive midfield performances from Nick Smith and Brett Kirk who were handed difficult assignments on Alan Didak and Scott Pendlebury respectively.
Dayne Beams continued his impressive first year of AFL football and led the Pies with 24 possessions with John Anthony the leading scorer on the ground with four goals.
An unfortunate slip by Leo Barry allowed Anthony in for Collingwood's first, but goals were hard to come by for both sides early.
The Swans weren't generating a great deal of scoring opportunities, but when they did venture forward they couldn't finish off their work.
Paul Medhurst added the Pies second midway through the term and when the quarter-time siren sounded, the Swans still hadn't kicked a goal and trailed by 11 points.
Jarred Moore broke his side's duck after Goodes set him up inside 50 and despite Travis Cloke's reply, the Swans looked to have found some rhythm and edged closer once again through Smith.
Josh Fraser got a goal from a ruck infringement against Mike Pyke, but Goodes was well into the contest by now and sent a dart right through the middle from 50m as the tempo lifted a notch.
A gutsy knock-on by Moore, who got crunched by Heath Shaw and left the game, set up Paul Bevan who sliced the margin to just one point, but Brad Dick made it a nine-point game at half-time with his first goal.
The tight contest opened up noticeably in the third and that suited Collingwood more than the Swans.
Goodes was able to answer Anthony's opener, but the floodgates opened as Dick sparked a four-goal run with a 70m effort that bounced through.
Jesse White was able to get one back after marking strongly over Leigh Brown, but the margin was still an imposing 30 points at the last change.
The first goal of the last quarter was vital and Anthony supplied it for the Pies.
The Swans kept toiling away, but couldn't narrow the gap until Goodes added his third 17 minutes in.
That was his side's last goal until the final siren, however, with Ed Barlow's major after the siren meaning little.
