A highlight on the Sydney Swans fixture, Marn Grook at the SCG, will see the Swans face Carlton in Round 11 on Sunday, May 30 at 3.20pm AEST.

Marn Grook will return to the SCG this season after last year's fixture, as part of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, was played in Perth due to the Covid interrupted season.

Sydney are looking forward to the opportunity of returning to the SCG for a big Sunday afternoon against a talented opposition says senior coach John Longmire.

“We have our Marn Grook game here at the SCG and we have Lance Franklin v Eddie Betts in great form,” Longmire said earlier this week.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to get along here and have a big crowd.

“They have some great young players in Walsh, McKay, Cripps is one of the best leaders in the AFL and we have some really good players in some really good form as well.

“We are looking forward to it and looking forward to a really good opportunity to test ourselves against a team that we know has great talent and we look forward to that.

With the final team selection to be confirmed tonight at 6:25pm, Longmire confirmed midfielder Justin McInerney would be a likely return to the side that suffered a two-point defeat to Fremantle.

The midfielder was managed through last week’s game, however Longmire confirmed it was more precautionary for the 20 year old who had a history with stress in his back last year.

“It was precautionary. We had a couple of younger boys with stress related injuries, and we were conscious of the workload those younger players had in particular,” Longmire said.

“Justin had some stress in his back last year, which he missed most of the pre-season, so there wasn’t anything specific, it was just a gut feel.

“We would of loved to have him play on the weekend, he has been terrific for us but he will come back in this week.

“We didn’t want to push him over the edge, given there was history with a couple of the younger kids, so we wanted to look after him.”

Defender Lewis Melican is also a chance of returning from a hamstring injury, pending testing this week.

The defender is in line to play his 50th AFL game if selected.

“We expect that Lewis Melican should be available this week,”

“He has missed a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury, and he was in pretty good form before that so we are hoping he is available for selection.

“He has been training well over the last week and a half, and has a full week of training this week under his belt so hopefully he is available as well.
