Sydney Swans AFLW player Lisa Steane looks for a target at training.

Sydney Swans fans will have their first chance to see the women's team in pre-season action on Saturday August 13 as they prepare for their first season in the AFLW competition with a practice match against Collingwood at Blacktown.

The AFLW Pre-Season games will align with Round 22 of the AFL Toyota Premiership Season, held from Friday 12 August to Sunday 14 August and all 18 AFL clubs will play the same opposition in men’s and women’s over the same weekend.

It sets up a bumper weekend of football in the harbour city with the VFL and AFL sides playing the Magpies the following day at the SCG.

General Manager of Women’s Football, Nicole Livingstone OAM said she was excited to see all 18 AFLW clubs play against the same teams across the women’s and men’s.

“Our competition is finally whole, and these practice matches will be the first time we will have 36 teams playing across one weekend,” Livingstone said.

“While there won’t be premiership points on the line, the practice matches are another significant moment in Australian Football history, as it signifies the symmetry across both the men’s and women’s competitions.

“Fans of will get their first look at their teams – with Port Adelaide, Hawthorn, Sydney and Essendon fans the opportunity for the very first time.

“Season Seven kicks off in one month’s time and with it brings four new clubs, 120 new players, thousands of new members and an exciting new chapter in the journey of women’s football.”
