UPCOMING GAME - SYDNEY DERBY XXIV
Sydney Swans v GWS Giants – Round 20
Saturday July 30, 2.10pm
SCG

OUTS:  Sam Wicks (medi-sub)

The Sydney Swans will run out with an unchanged line up when they face the GWS Giants in the 24th edition of the Sydney Derby on Saturday afternoon.

“We still have some depth underneath which is beneficial, but we are going in with an unchanged team against the Giants, who will probably have a few changes themselves,” said senior coach John Longmire.

The Swans will be looking to continue the form that saw them deliver a 33-point victory over the Crows last weekend. A win over their cross-town rivals this weekend would make it four in a row for the red and white, but Longmire says there is still plenty of improvement to be seen from his side.

“It’s good to have consistency in performance, we’re still striving to do it week in and week out, but the last few weeks have been fairly solid. There’s been some players in our reserves that have had a strong couple of weeks, and they’ll be used as we go on.”

Despite the Giants sitting at the other end of the ladder, Longmire’s men won’t be underestimating their opponents in what is expected to be another fiery chapter in the history of Sydney Derby clashes.

“We want a big crowd here hopefully supporting the boys. We know the Giants games are always tight and tough, and no doubt this will be another one.

They’ve got some great talent. Their best team is a really highly talented team with high pressure and always go hard, and those games against us are really hard,” said Longmire.

There will be more than the four points on the line on Saturday, with the Swans and Giants to contest The Lifeline Cup.

The Lifeline Cup is symbolic of Lifeline’s mission to ensure that no Australian has to face their darkest moments alone. It is proudly supported by the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants.

“It’s important the Lifeline Cup, a lot of people have been struggling over the years in particularly with Covid issues and various things so it’s really important we get behind that and support people who have had some really challenging times,” said Longmire.
