First happens once, be with us from the start.

Our first squad. Our first fixture. Our first season.

History will be made at North Sydney Oval on Saturday August 27 when the Sydney Swans kick off their inaugural season against St Kilda.

This will be an historic occasion for our football club. For 148 years we have had the men's team playing in the VFA/VFL/AFL and now a women's team will represent the club too. We are encouraging all members and fans to get along to North Sydney and cheer the team on in their first match against St Kilda.

Arrive to the venue early to experience some of the game day activity and be in your seat by 4:40pm to welcome the team onto the ground for their warm up and team entry.

FAQS

How many games are there in Sydney?

The Swans will play their home games at three venues across Sydney, with Henson Park hosting two matches and North Sydney Oval and the SCG to host one fixture each.  The Henson Park games include two family-friendly Saturday afternoon matches against the Gold Coast Suns (Round 7) and Fremantle (Round 9).

Round 3 will see the Swans play their first game at the SCG, in what is set to be a blockbuster against cross-town rivals, the GIANTS. This match will also be the AFL's Indigenous Round and the team will wear Sydney’s original Marn Grook guernsey for this match. View the full fixture HERE.

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets for the historic Round 1 match at North Sydney Oval and for other matches this season can be purchased here. Tickets cost is $10 for adults and free entry for patrons under the age of 18. Children under 18 will still need a valid ticket to gain entry so will need to purchase a $0 ticket.

I'm a member, how do I redeem my tickets?

AFLW Admission & Premium Members receive access to matches included in their membership, however for selected matches (due to venue capacities) members will be required to redeem their ticket to secure their spot to the match. The club strongly recommends doing this as early as possible to avoid missing out.

AFLW Admission and Premium members will also be able to purchase additional tickets during the member-pre-sale and beyond.

What are the differences between an AFLW game and AFL game?

Game time - women's games are 15 minute quarters with time on.

Shorter season - the season is shorter than the men's, with 10 games and finals. 16 players on the field- the team is arranged in a 5-6-5 configuration with 5 forwards, 6 midfielders, and 5 defenders. Five players sit on the bench and there is no cap on the number of interchange rotations. AFL games have 18 players and the men’s game is 6-6-6, with 6 forwards, 6 midfielders, and 6 defenders.

The women play with a smaller ball. AFLW matches are played with a size 4 Sherrin football which is slightly smaller than the men, which uses a size 5.

There's no centre bounce. Because of a smaller ball, umpires throw the ball up in the centre of the ground.
