THE SYDNEY Swans will wheel out some big names when they venture into Greater Western Sydney territory to take on North Melbourne in the NAB Cup on Saturday night.
Swans coach John Longmire has said that Shane Mumford, Josh Kennedy, Ryan O'Keefe and Gary Rohan will all play against the Kangaroos at Bruce Purser Reserve in Sydney's west.
The quartet sat out last week's opening NAB Cup fixtures, when the Swans enjoyed a big win over St Kilda before succumbing to premiers Geelong by 16 points at Etihad Stadium.
"(Rohan) pulled up a little bit tight with a groin after our intra-club match (on February 17) and we didn't want to risk anyone," Longmire said.
"Ryan O'Keefe also had a tight groin, so we thought we'd give them a spell and they'll be able to play for the next three weeks hopefully.
"Josh Kennedy was about a week short in his preparation and will be fine this week. So Josh Kennedy, Mumford, Rohan, O'Keefe … we'd expect them all to play."
While GWS is taking on Hawthorn in Launceston on Saturday, the Swans will slink into the heart of Giants territory in Rouse Hill to take on the Roos and fly their red and white flag.
While it isn't a deliberate ploy by the Swans, with NAB Cup fixtures organised by the AFL, the club is pleased to be playing in Sydney this week.
"I think it's just important to have a game in Sydney," Longmire said.
"We really appreciate it and want all the Swans supporters to come and see us, wherever they are and whoever's territory we're in.
"We'd like to think we've got a really strong supporter base through the eastern suburbs, through the hills district and through a lot of districts in Sydney.
"We'd like all the Swans supporters to come along and see close up some of the players that will be running around on Saturday."
Longmire was pleased with the Swans' efforts last Friday night, which included kicking the highest score in the NAB Cup's shortened format so far against the Saints.
Having struggled for goals in 2011, the Swans kicked 0.9.5 (59) against St Kilda, pipping West Coast's 57 points against Essendon and Fremantle's 56 against the same opponents in week one.
One of those who contributed to the Swans' top score was young Paul Kelly lookalike, Harry Cunningham.
Hailing from Wagga in NSW, the same football factory as Kelly and Wayne Carey, Cunningham was used in an unfamiliar forward role and responded with two goals, four marks and eight possessions.
Cunningham's playing style, and even his hairstyle, are similar to Kelly's, who has had a hand in coaching the young Swan.
The 18-year-old is on the Swans' rookie list and Longmire was asked if he would do his best to find a way to get Cunningham onto the senior rotation.
"Yeah, he looked pretty good didn't he?" Longmire said.
"He got a couple of goals himself and gave one to Jude (Bolton).
"He's had a pretty impressive pre-season to be honest and he's going really well.
"We haven't played him in the forward line, we've been playing him down back, and with some rotations he went forward for us and did pretty well."
