The Sydney Swans have made two changes to the club’s AFLW playing list with Gen Lawson Tavan and Zoe Hurrell told they will not be offered contracts for Season 8.

Zoe Hurrell, R8 Essendon v Sydney

Hurrell joined the Swans after 10 seasons in Sydney’s AFL competition, including stints at Sydney University and the North Shore Bombers.

The 21-year-old made her AFL debut in Round 8 against Essendon and went on to play the following round against Fremantle, finishing the season with two games under her belt.

Lawson Tavan was recruited to the Swans as a replacement player for Alice Mitchell, who spent the season on the long-term injury list.

The 25-year-old defender from VFL side Darebin made her AFL debut in Round 1 against St Kilda at North Sydney Oval. She went on to finish the season having played seven games in the red and white.

Sydney’s Executive GM – AFLW, Kate Mahony, has thanked both players for their service.

Gen Lawson Tavan, R2 Collingwood v Sydney

“Both Gen and Zoe should be commended for the way they approached this season. It was a challenging year, given we had a very short time to pull the team together, and both players showed they were willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work,” Mahony said.

“On behalf of everyone at the Swans I would like to thank Gen and Zoe for their contribution and wish them all the best for the future.”
