Sydney Swans midfield Angus Sheldrick has been named the Round 15 Rising Star nominee following his stand out performance in the red and white following our side's 171-point emphatic victory over West Coast Eagles on Saturday.

In just his 7th game, the 19-year-old had 29 disposals and a goal while also registering 12 contested possessions and 12 scoring involvements.

“It was very good to be a part of it, it was very good fun out there,” Sheldrick said following the match.

“Everyone was really proud of how selfless everyone was, especially when we were 100-points up, everyone went back to our system which was really positive.”

Sheldrick was drafted with pick 18 by the Swans in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft after a standout season at the Colts level for Claremont in the WAFL.

In the 2021 WAFL Colts Grand Final, Sheldrick had 27 disposals and two goals against Swan Districts.

The 178cm midfielder made his debut in Round One of the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. He played two games in 2022 before spending an extended period on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Sheldrick has played five games for the Swans this year, with his form in the last three rounds particularly exciting for the Sydney Swans' fans.

In Round 13 against St Kilda, he had 19 disposals and six tackles. In Round 14 against the Brisbane Lions, he had 19 disposals and two goals.

“I am loving it, it’s a lot of good fun, especially when you are winning but I will see what happens next week and hopefully we can back it up.” Sheldrick said.

Sheldrick is the first Sydney Swans player to be nominated for the Rising Star award this year and the first for the club since Logan McDonald was nominated in Round 12, 2022.
