The Sydney Swans will feature in a host of prime-time games as part of its 2027 Toyota AFL Premiership fixture, as revealed by the AFL on Thursday.
Sydney will open the season with a stand-alone Wednesday night blockbuster clash with Geelong at the SCG, before returning to the Harbour City in Round 3 to host cross-town rivals GWS in a Friday night Sydney Derby.
Friday night games feature prominently in the first half of the Swans’ fixture - with five at the SCG, including the annual Marn Grook celebration at the SCG against Hawthorn during the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
Three games at the MCG headline a lineup of five matches in Melbourne, with the Swans to play at the venue of the Grand Final in Round 2 against Essendon, Round 5 against Melbourne and Round 19 against Richmond.
Sydney Swans CEO Matthew Pavlich welcomed the fixture as a strong outcome for the red and white.
“We know how much Sydneysiders love coming to the SCG under lights for blockbuster games, and we welcome the opportunity to showcase the Swans across the country in prime-time slots,” Pavlich said.
“Opening the season in a stand-alone fixture is a privilege and a massive boost for AFL in the city of Sydney, so we can’t wait to take on the Cats on March 17.
“This is a great endorsement from the AFL that footy in Sydney is thriving, and we expect our 2027 men’s season to be one that is full of excitement with the stands at the SCG rocking.”
In 2027, the Swans will play Hawthorn, Brisbane, Melbourne, GWS, North Melbourne and West Coast Eagles twice.
In addition to the games in Melbourne, the Club’s interstate trips include two visits to South Australia (including a blockbuster Friday night clash with Collingwood at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round) and Western Australia, as well as one trip each to Queensland and Tasmania, giving Swans supporters across Australia the opportunity to see the team live.
The dates and times of Rounds 17-24 will be confirmed by the AFL at a later date.
