We’re pleased to announce Sydney Swans AFLW senior coach Scott Gowans will remain in red and white, after his contract was extended until the end of 2027.

Gowans, the inaugural coach of Sydney’s women’s team, led the team to the AFLW semi-finals in just its second year in the competition.

While the team is still at the start of its journey, Gowans said they are working to make incremental improvements each day and he is excited by where they are headed.

“We’re really fortunate to have a likeminded group right across the club who recognise we are on a mission together and are committed to improve,” Gowans said.

“Our team is growing and developing, and everyone comes to work with a genuine excitement and enthusiasm about what we are building.

“The environment and leadership right across the Sydney Swans from the board down enables you to do your job to the best of your ability, and I couldn’t’ think of a better place to work.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the board, Tom Harley, Kate Mahony and all of our AFLW staff and players, my manager James Pitcher, as well as my wife Jodie and my family for their support. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in Sydney so far and I’m thrilled to be extending my tenure at the Swans.”

Sydney Swans Executive General Manager of Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, said the club has been impressed with Gowans’ work ethic and approach.

“Scott has a passion for developing people and it’s evident in the way he approaches both players and coaches to get the most out of them,” Mahony said.

“In football it’s the one percenters that can make so much difference and Scott is elite at guiding our team through those small improvements that collectively have a big impact.

“We’re pleased to have Scott locked in and looking forward to a big season ahead.”
