Sydney VFL Head Coach Jarrad McVeigh says his side is looking forward to a tough challenge when they face GWS in the Sydney Derby on Sunday.

The Swans come up against a strong, in-form Giants line-up who have yet to lose a game, the visitors most recently recording an emphatic 73-point victory over Footscray last weekend.

McVeigh said the side would have to be at its best for a full four quarters to notch the win.

"We're coming up against a team that's undefeated and we're looking forward to a big challenge," McVeigh said.

"I think, first and foremost, our pressure around the ball and our ability to transition, when we played them throughout the practice games we probably performed really well for three quarters, then just let ourselves down in one quarter.

"So we will be looking for just a really consistent performance through our work rate and transition and pressure around the ball, and that always leads us in."

The team has been boosted with the return of ruck Peter Ladhams from the AFL side, who McVeigh said would provide important leadership and experience.

"Ladhams coming in, obviously he played really well the other week, and it'll be good for Greeny (Will Green) to have another ruck partner there that'll help him," McVeigh said.

"When you stand in the race and you've got someone of his calibre, the boys walk a little bit taller and their (GWS's) ruck brigade is quite strong, so it'll be nice to have two genuine ruckmen this week to really try and get some ascendancy in the clearances.

"They've got great high pressure the Giants and they move the ball really fast and swiftly, so we're going to have to be on our game but it's nice to have Pete to be able to give our midfielders some first use."

The VFL side will hit the turf of the SCG for the first time this season, and McVeigh said the team was excited by the opportunity to put on a strong showing in front of Swans members and fans.

"It's great, hopefully a lot of the fans can stay around and support the boys, it's such an iconic ground and, generally, we haven't been able to get out there too much," he said.

"So it'll be nice for the boys to get in there rather than Lakeside out the front and show their stuff and hopefully put on a great performance."

The VFL will kick off on the SCG from 4.35pm following Sydney Derby XXX.
