The Sydney Swans have secured the future of three promising young players with Caiden Cleary, Will Edwards and Riak Andrew extending their contracts with the club until 2027.

QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduates Cleary and Edwards have both signed new two-year deals while Andrew, already contracted to the end of the 2026 season, has extended his stay in the Harbour City by a further 12 months.

The trio are the latest young Swans to recommit to the red and white, joining Sam Wicks, Ned Bowman and Jesse Datoli in putting pen to paper in recent weeks.

Cleary was selected by Sydney with pick 24 in the 2023 AFL Draft and played five AFL matches in his debut season. The 20-year-old has added a further eight games to his AFL tally so far this year, averaging 13 disposals and four tackles.

Cleary said it was an easy decision to re-sign with the Swans.

“I’m really grateful to the club for putting their faith in me for another two years,” Cleary said.

“I’ve spent a lot of my junior footy in the Swans Academy, so I really feel like this is home for me.

“To sign on for another couple of years is a really great feeling, and we have a great group, so I’m really excited to see what we can achieve as a team over the next two years.”

Sydney Swans Executive General Manager Football – AFL, Leon Cameron, said the club was pleased to secure Cleary’s signature for a further two seasons.

“We are really happy to add Caiden to the growing list of players who have recommitted to the club this year," Cameron said.

“Since coming back into the side earlier this season, he’s really taken his opportunity, and we’ve been really pleased with what he’s shown.

“We think Caiden has a really promising future and look forward to seeing him continue to develop.”

Edwards, who was drafted as a Category B rookie in 2022, has impressed as a key defender in the VFL over the past three seasons. Andrew joined the Swans in the 2024 draft with pick 55 and has been rehabilitating a shoulder injury since the beginning of the year.

“Will has played some great footy at VFL level and had shown great strides in his development over the past couple of years,” Cameron said.

“And we knew when we drafted Riak that he was very talented and pleasingly he has embraced the hard work required in an AFL environment.

“We have been really happy with both Will and Riak’s progress, and we look forward to them hopefully pushing for AFL selection in the near future.”
