Sydney Swans tall Hayden McLean will return to the action on Saturday night, after senior coach Dean Cox named him in his side to take on Brisbane at the Gabba.

McLean missed Sydney's win over Essendon last weekend after he sustained a concussion in the opening minutes of the Sydney Derby in Round 20.

Speaking to Sydney Swans Media, Cox said McLean would be a welcome boost for the team.

"He's done everything he has to through the protocols and trained really well on Tuesday and then again today, so excited to have him back," Cox said.

Making way for McLeans return is Peter Ladhams who has been omitted.

McLean has been named on the interchange bench alongside Caiden Cleary, Braeden Campbell, Harry Cunningham and Angus Sheldrick.

The Swans will name their substitute one hour before the first bounce.

The Lions will be without their captain Lachie Neale, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the home and away season.

Round 6

Cox said the team would need to be at their best to secure the win.

"First of all, we need to certainly get it done around the contest, they're going quicker off half-back," Cox said.

"They've been playing a really uncontested mark, corridor brand of footy so one thing we need to do is to try and get some ascendancy in our front half but on top of that also understand what they want to do and they do it really well at the minute.

"I think what they've done over the past month, they had a quieter one against Gold Coast which they haven't shown in previous years. So against Collingwood they were really impressive last week and we need to be at our best to beat them."

The match will mark Tom McCartin's 150th. The defender joined the Swans in 2017, with pick 33 and made his AFL debut in Round 8, 2018 against Hawthorn.
